ASUS Zenbook UX31E - stunning mid-range Ultrabook for a competitive price
The deal: ASUS Zenbook UX31E - stunning mid-range Ultrabook for a competitive price - $1,180.00
For $1,180 the 13.3in ASUS Zenbook UX31E-RY009V is a very competitive Ultrabook bargain. It’s spectacularly well-built and easily the best looking Ultrabook released so far, but it’s not just good looking. A low-voltage 2nd Gen Intel Core i5 and 4GB of RAM provide enough computing power to get actual work done, and the 13.3in screen has an unusually high resolution of 1,600x900 pixels. It’s also seriously light at just 1.3kg, making it very easy to carry around with you.
One bonus with the UX31E at Dick Smith is two years of Intel Anti-Theft. In the unfortunate event that the UX31E gets stolen, this allows for it to be remotely locked in such a way as to make it completely unusable. You can unlock it with your password once you get it back, but it does mean that the thief is ultimately stuck with a very stylish paperweight. It also has a Secure Vault option that allows for part of the SSD storage to become extremely thoroughly encrypted.
We’re not sure when this special expires, but past experience with these kinds of Dick Smith sales is that it’ll most likely expire on Sunday.
Processor
The UX31E has a 2nd Gen Intel Core i5-2557M (1.7GHz), which is one of the better mid-range low-voltage processors that can run productivity applications and some intensive software. It can burst up to 2.7GHz using Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology if a particularly demanding program is running.
Graphics
It has an integrated graphics solution called Intel HD Graphics 3000. It’s on par with a low-end dedicated graphics card, and is sufficient for modern games at the lowest settings.
RAM
It has 4GB of RAM, which is enough to run several programs at once smoothly. It’s more than enough to ensure fluid overall system performance with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Storage
It has a very small 128GB solid state drive. It does have very rapid response though for both reading and writing data.
Screen
It has a 13.3in (1,600x900 resolution) gloss screen.
Portability
The UX31E has exceptional portability, because it weighs 1.3kg and is 17mm thick. It’s more than light enough to be taken anywhere without any problems whatsoever.
