IBM introduces new mobile security and management software

IBM had acquired BigFlix Inc. in 2010, and now offers the IBM Endpoint Manager for mobile device, which is based on this technology. It proves to be handy, if the mobile device is lost or stolen as it allows the administrator to remotely wipe off the data. The Endpoint Management also ensures enhancement enforcement of passcode policies, encryption, VPN and also other corporate security policies. This new app follows the trend of ‘Bring your own device' (BYOD).

The new application from IBM has been designed to work with an array of mobile devices. This app works at remote management of mobile devices, including tablets that run on Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, Microsoft’s Windows platform and also the Symbian mobile operating system. This software is capable of identifying non-compliant devices and denies e-mail access and issues user notifications until corrective measures are taken.

"As the BYOD movement accelerates, it presents new opportunities and challenges for organizations.  In order for them to take advantage of this trend, it is important that organizations have mobile security and management policies in place," said Bob Sutor, Vice President, IBM Mobile Platform.  "The new offering from IBM will help organizations manage personal and enterprise-owned mobile phones and tablets across IT networks in order to minimize risk, increase productivity and enhance innovation."

Earlier this month, IBM was said to acquire Worklight, which is an Israel-based mobile platform developer for an undisclosed amount. Worklight is said to be a key component in IBM’s mobility strategy. It is also said to be working with HTC to get businesses to employ Android devices. The openness of the Android platform renders it susceptible to malwares. This is why HTC is said to be luring businesses to indulge in Android devices backed by security from IBM. HTC believes that it can add in more business users by convincing them about utmost security with IBM.
