Bing maps to become Nokia maps

For all those users using Bing maps, there is soon going to be some re-branding happening. In an interview with Pocket-lint, Stephen Elop, the CEO for Nokia has mentioned that Bing maps will get a re-branding, and this will not just be for WP7 Nokia phones – it will be a default for all other company phones. Now, that’s definitely a major step ahead for Nokia, in the maps department, at least. For example, BlackBerry was soon going to implement Bing maps on all of it’s smartphones, so if your BB phone is or will be relying on Bing maps, it will soon have the Nokia branding.

Stephen mentioned that, "Part of the relationship we established with Microsoft is that we are clearly placing a bet on the Windows Phone platform. [In return] they are placing a bet on our location-based platform: mapping, navigation and so forth. In the time ahead, what you will see is, across all the Microsoft properties including Bing maps, more and more work will be done by Nokia."

In the interview, he also stated that he aims to build the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia on more of a give and take basis, instead of keeping it one-sided. We’re not too sure as to how well that will go down with all its rivals, but it's definitely a major step ahead for Nokia.
