Untethered jailbreak finally available for iDevices running A5 chips

Afew days back, it was reported that Pod2G and a few hackers from the Chronic Dev Team were close to releasing a jailbreak for the latest Apple devices, namely the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. On Pod2G’s blog, the French jailbreaker left a message saying, ‘Only a few to wait now.’ It appears that the wait is finally over and an untethered jailbreak for these iDevices using Apple’s A5 chips is finally available using the Greenpois0n Absinthe tool.

The jailbreak, as of now is limited only for Apple Mac computers, but a tweet by p0sixninja, one of the developers of the jailbreak states that the Windows and Linux version will be available in the near future. So, those who want to jailbreak their Apple iPhone 4S or an iPad 2, this is what they will have to do. Firstly, have your device running iOS 5.0 or 5.0.1, but the Wi-Fi only version of the iPad 2 will need to use the latest OS which is iOS 5.0.1. After that one would need to download the Greenpois0n Absinthe tool onto their Mac computer and install the software. Then connect the iOS device to the computer, back it up and click on Jailbreak after launching Greenpois0n. Once this is done, the iDevice will reboot and the Greenpois0n icon will show up on the device. Tap the icon and then it will do the needful and then reboot once more. After that, the device boots up again, the Cydia icon will appear indicating that the latest generation iOS devices have successfully been jailbroken.

Devices using the A4 chip have already been successfully jailbroken in the past and it was only a matter of time till the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running iOS 5 would be successfully jailbroken. Do let us know if any of you will jailbreak your device and if you notice any glitches. If so please post your reactions about it in the comments below. Finally one can now tweak their latest iDevice and are able to the world of possibilities of Cydia.
