When you have a franchise as lucrative as Call of Duty, it’s a given that you’ll be churning out yearly installments of what is considered today the most profitable franchise in gaming history. Last year’s Black Ops decimated sales records, firmly cementing the fact that no matter how contrived these games have become, they are going to sell. This year, most predict whatever’s left of Infinity Ward will be stepping up to the plate with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Is this even the real logo?
According to Kotaku, Modern Warfare 3 if announced would continue the events of MW2 and will feature recurring characters Captain Price and Soap McTavish. The game is also rumored to be larger in scope featuring environmental destruction, a key feature of the Bad Company franchise.
EA has been calling Activision out for a while now, claiming their Battlefield series will eventually topple Activision’s money-making juggernaut and from the looks of things, both these shooters (Battlefield 3 and MW3) will probably confront each other this year. Expect a formal announcement from Activision at E3 2011.
