JK Rowling Announces the Digitization of Harry Potter

JK Rowling has announced a new way to explore the Harry Potter world yesterday, with the unveiling of Pottermore.com, which seems to be in partnership with Sony. With Pottermore, Rowling said that Harry Potter fans will be able to enjoy the Potter world in a digital space, including at least thousands of never read before words describing the Potter world in more detail. The big thing about Pottermore, is that the Harry Potter books will be available as ebooks, a format that JK Rowling has never allowed before. There's an announcement video for Pottermore with Rowling explaining that Pottermore is "new and exciting",  but really doesn't go into much detail of what it really is. Of course, this is where the guessing begins.

What's interesting about the ebooks is that they will be open to various formats (iPad, Kindle etc), which seems to indicate they will be DRM free. The website says that Pottermore will be "open to all" in October. It says that users should come back to the site on the 31st of July to see how they can get to experience the website early. It also allows users to register their email addresses for a notificiation for when they can eventually register for an early peek at Pottermore (yes, a little redundant). This website, however, will give fans a little bit of "hope" (if that's what you want to call it) after the 8th and final movie ends and they have no more of Harry Potter to look forward to.
