There are a few ways to get out of being a juror in a legal proceeding and Facebook can help. According to CNET, in a personal injury civil case, juror Jacob Jock who is a web designer by day, attempted to Facebook friend the defendant in the case, Victoria Millerman. Apparently, he had been trying to get out of jury duty and had even posted multiple status updates on his Facebook complaning about the tedious nature of what he had to do. His friends commented on his various status updates with tips to get out of jury duty. He friended the defendent 20 minutes after being briefed that the jury was not to contact anyone.
Friend a defendant, get out of 'jail' free
The fun part is, Jock said that he friended her as an accident. He old the Herald-Tribune: "I accidentally friend requested her. I didn't think it was a big deal. I didn't think I would get picked for the jury." After getting off the jury, he posted, "Score...I got dismissed!! apparently they frown upon sending a friend request to the defendant...haha."
So was the friendship request just an 'accident'? Despite the obvious fact that can friending someone on Facebook really be called an accident? What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
