Sony Ericsson officially launches Live with Walkman droid in India

This little Android has been selling in online and retail stores for a while now and Sony Ericsson has finally decided to wake up and make it ‘official’ from their end. If you buy the phone now, you get free Benetton headphones along with it as part of an early bird offer. In addition to that, Sony Ericsson has tied up with Aircel for an exclusive offer. All Aircel customers who own this phone are eligible to download up to 20 full length songs for free. This offer is valid for a month. You also get to download up to 2GB of content from Sony Music  for no cost.

The Live with Walkman phone is Sony Ericsson’s attempt to convert all their feature phones into smartphones as that’s the direction they're heading in. For a street price of Rs.14,549, you do get quite a bit of kit for your money. The phone is powered by a powerful 1GHz processor and comes with Android Gingerbread. The screen may lack the BRAVIA engine, but that’s fine since the resolution somewhat makes up for it. Since this hails from their Walkman series, you get the xLOUD sound enhancements and a physical ‘Walkman’ button to get to the music player. Just like the predecessors, the phone also features a novelty orange ring that lights up when music is playing. Going by the specifications and features, it seems like the best option under Rs.15,000 right now. We’ll know for sure once we review it.

In the meanwhile, here’s a look at some of the highlights:

  • 3.2-inch TFT Capacitive Touchscreen with a 320 x 480 pixel resolution
  • 1GHz Scorpion processor, 512 MB of RAM
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 320MB internal storage
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi ‘n’

  • Stereo FM radio with RDS
