Apple has just announced the availability of tickets to WWDC 2011 on June 6-10 at San Francisco’s Moscone West. Nothing new here – this has been happening this way since time immemorial. However, what’s interesting is the focus on software in the announcement text.
Obviously this is all Kremlinology but I believe that we can expect a June release of Apple’s next OS X, Lion. As MG notes, Lion is close to Gold Master right now (Pro Tip: Don’t try the beta versions that are floating around right now. They’re pretty rough stuff) and the June event is an obvious milestone at which to roll out a new version of OS X as well as potential updates to iOS.

As usual, Apple stuck millions of little app icons onto their WWDC logo, a tribute to the developers who have so stalwartly churned out content for iOS. However, those icons also now point to the Mac App Store, an interesting and recent development in the space.
So what about hardware? Well, the iPad 2 just dropped and the iPhone 4 is still solid in the market so I doubt we’ll see any serious upgrades around WWDC time. Expect these to drop later in the summer/fall in time for back-to-school. So, if you’ve been waiting for a Retina Display iPad 3 with 3D camera running Android before you invest in Cupertino’s latest creations, you’re probably going to have to wait a little longer.
