O2 delays Xperia PLAY launch, citing “bugs in the software"

There’s news of a possible PR catastrophe unfolding for Sony Ericsson today, thanks to UK network O2 deciding to delay the launch of the Xperia PLAY due to issues discovered when testing the device.
Here’s a rather damning snippet from O2′s announcement of the delay:
“We’ve been testing the phone non-stop for weeks and have found some bugs in the software that, if they’re not fixed, means customers won’t have a great experience. We’ve been working with Sony Ericsson to get these bugs ironed out, but haven’t been able to get them fixed in time for us to be able to launch the phone on April 1st as we originally planned”
And by going public in such a fashion, it looks like O2 is trying to sabotage sales of the device on any other networks that do launch the thing, too.

Bit of a shame, as O2 has the exclusive white version of the Android gaming phone. Read the full statement over on the O2 blog.
