Untethered jailbreak available for most iOS 5.0.1 devices

Earlier this month, jailbreaker Pod2g posted an update on Twitter stating that he was hard at work on releasing an untethered jailbreak for Apple devices running iOS 5. He had already previewed this jailbreak on an iPod 3G and that he was working on a release, but he stated that it would take some time before it would be available. It seems that his efforts have paid off much sooner than expected and has already delivered the jailbreak for iDevices that are using pre-A5 chips.

As per a blog post by Dev-Team Blog, this jailbreak is available for devices, such as the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4 CDMA, iPad 1, iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G, which have all been updated to iOS 5.0.1. Those using the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 will have to wait for a while, as this jailbreak does not work on iOS devices using an A5 chipsets. This is the first untethered jailbreak available for iOS devices running the latest firmware and according to a blog post by Pod2g, the French jailbreaker says that the Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team have released the A4 untethered for 5.0.1 based on his work. This release has been bundled into redsnow 0.9.10 as well as Cydia.
