The news of Apple launching an integrated HDTV has been doing the rounds for some time now. It first began when Piper Jaffray analyst, Gene Munster speculated that the Cupertino brand was to launch a full scale HDTV by late 2012 or early 2013. This is different from the Apple TV set top box, which is available in the market, since quite a while. In Steve Jobs’ biography, author Walter Issacson revealed that, at the time of writing, the former CEO of Apple revealed that he had cracked it and found a way of building an integrated iTV. Rumours suggested that this television would feature on Siri, Apple’s voice recognition assistant to control it. A report by Apple Insider, which stated that the iTV ‘could offer Internet-based content subscriptions with customized channel line-ups' only fueled the rumours.

The report cites analyst Shaw Wu with Sterne Agee who states that customized programming is believed to be Apple’s most sought after feature for its rumoured television set. With this feature, users would have a choice of what content they would wish to watch by paying a monthly subscription fee. Live broadcasting is the only thing missing from Apple’s portfolio as they already feature movies for rental and purchase, while TV shows are already available for purchase. The analyst states that if Apple manages to implement this technology, they would be able to jump ahead of the competition.
If Apple does launch their iTV, it should be unveiled by the end of next year. The rumours and speculations keep on mounting and it appears that in all likelihood a HDTV from Apple is definitely in the works.
