Blast rocks Apple supplier's plant in Shanghai


Ablast in one of Pegatron Corp's subsidiary plants, also one of Apple's suppliers in Shanghai has injured 61 workers, confirms Reuters. The plant in question belongs to Riteng Computer Accessory Co, located in Songjiang industrial park. This particular plant would produce back panel parts for the iPad 2. The plant, however, has not begun operations fully and a section of the unit is still under pre-operation inspection.

Struck by a blast 


According to a statement let out by the Shanghai city government, the blast at the plant happened at about 3:40 p.m. on December 17 at a workshop on the fourth floor of the facility. The report further states that, "It put the number of injured at 57, of whom 23 had burns and were hospitalized for further observation, but said none had life-threatening injuries."

The blast, reportedly did not cause fire, but caused 23 of its workers to be hospitalized. In a statement provided by Pegatron to Reuters, it has been revealed that the blast has affected the machinery, but that it could "make adjustments to the facility to minimize the impact on operations and revenue".
