Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S starts rolling out
Google recently announced through Twitter that they have begun rolling out their latest OS to their previous flagship model, the Nexus S. Prior to this, Ice Cream Sandwich was available only on the Galaxy Nexus and this certainly seems like good news for those who are not willing to make the upgrade to this year’s Google phone. The tweet states that Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich will be rolled out to Nexus S devices using the GSM/ UMTS, over the course of the coming month, starting from the 17th of December.  Nexus S receiving ICS According to a report by Android Police, this is an over-the-air update and besides the OS upgrade, Google has offered tips on how to get started with Ice Cream Sandwich. To get started with the ICS update, one can download the OTA package, then rename it to update.zip and copy it to the root of the internal storage. Once done, power off the device, reboot it into the bootloader by holding the volume up and power button. Select the recovery option and then press the power button to confirm. When the warning triangle appears, hold the power button and then press the volume up button. A menu will appear and in this menu select the apply update from /sdcard option. Select the update.zip from the list. The update will then take place and once finished; select ‘reboot system now.’ After the reboot process, Ice Cream Sandwich should be available on your Nexus S. As of now, Ice Cream Sandwich is available to only the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus S. We certainly are waiting for it to come to devices like the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy S II. |
