TRAI releases Telecom Subscription Data Nov'11 report


In a report put out by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), titled, 'Highlights of Telecom Subscription Data as on 30th November, 2011', it has been revealed that telecom operators in the country managed to make in a net addition of only 2.74 million subscribers to their networks, in November, last year. With that, the total number of telecom subscribers in the country to 917.33 million, which was inclusive of 884.37 million subsribers to wireless communication and 32.96 million for wireline communications. The month, according to the report also saw a 0.11 percent growth in the number of mobile subscriptions in urban towns taking the total subscriptions, here to 606.47 million, while that in the rural section saw a 0.66 percent growth, taking the total subscriptions, here to 310.86 million.

Further, the data also revealed the level of the performance of the popular concept of MNP in the country through the month. Figures suggest that the service saw a jump, through the month -"increased from 231.66 lakh subscribers at the end of October 2011 to 258.37 lakh subscribers at the end of November 2011." TRAI also included in the report the VLR numbers. A VLR, or Visitor Location Register number is a count of the number of users, who're active during a particular time period. An active subsciber is the one that receives/sends SMS, calls, among other services. TRAI revealed that the number of active mobile subscribers, as per visitor location register (VLR) data, during November 2011 was 635.39 million.
